Electrical insulator
One of the most common functional applications for technical ceramics, and aluminium oxide in particular, is insulation. In the case of aluminium oxide, this often involves electrical insulation in combination with the mechanical properties and resistance to high temperatures. The various production techniques offer numerous possibilities when it comes to the form relative to price.
Thermal insulator
With an insulation value of 1.6 W/mK, Macor is highly suitable as a thermal insulator. Macor belongs to the group of machinable ceramics which, unlike most ceramics, can be machined using standard tools. This makes it highly suitable for prototypes and small complex batches. However, if the mechanical properties are not appropriate, zirconium oxide is a good alternative.
