APPLICATIONS FOR TECHNICAL CERAMICS

Electrical engineering

The electrical engineering industry makes frequent use of parts that electrically isolate two separate parts. The insulation does not only occur in air, but also in vacuum, and can occur at both room temperature and at higher temperatures. When manufacturing parts for the electrical engineering industry, wear can be a major issue.

Because most ceramic materials are electrically insulating even at higher temperatures, technical ceramics can find applications in the electrical engineering industry.

Further properties of technical ceramics, such as high or low heat conductivity, high or low coefficient of expansion and a high grade of toughness, are also appropriate to the electrical engineering industry. Because the choice of materials may vary widely for each application, our Gimex staff can offer advice on these matters.

Insulator

Macor insulators are frequently used in electrical installations. The combination of their insulating properties and good machinability make many design options possible. Due to its low hardness, the basic material can be machined with conventional tools, and there are fewer limitations regarding shape compared to other ceramics.

Lamp base

The combination of electrical insulation and thermal resistance of aluminium oxide makes it ideal for lamp bases. The demand for this application has of course decreased as a result of technological developments, but it is still used regularly because of its industrial appearance.
